Food Gardening

The food garden project was a resuscitation of an initiative by the City of Johannesburg to provide a poor community in the township of Alexandra. The team donated gardening tools (spades, shovels, water cans, rakes, transplanters, garden hoes, hose pipes, taps and seeds). They also installed 2 Jojos (water tanks) and fittings. The team planted cabbage, lettuce, onions, beetroot, tomatoes; other seeds were kept for future planting. An event was held to officially launch the food garden and guests included the councillor and City of Johannesburg representatives.

Tree Planting

Trees have been shown to have many benefits for urban areas; they clean the air, reduce carbon emissions and provide oxygen in addition to beautifying spaces.
The ROSA Tree Planting Team planted trees in four locations.

Osizweni Home for Children in Jabavu Soweto - where they planted four trees, renovated the welfare centre and provided the children with a sandbox to play in.

SANCA - a drug rehabilitation centre as well as the outside area of drug rehabilitation wing of the Chris Hani hospital

Witkoppen Primary School - where they planted six trees as well as did landscaping in the school’s exterior.

Street Cleaning Campaign

The street cleaning campaign is carried out every year in partnership with Pikitup. After the street cleanup, plastic bags are left in designated collection points for Pikitup to collect the next day. The street cleaning was accompanied by a mass distribution of more than 10 000 copies of the Rhapsody Of Realities.

Linden Police Station

The project improved the working environment at the Linden police station by painting various sections of the police station building and working on the garden and exterior area maintenance
